Tricks for organizing closets

Japanese Marie Kondo won the world over by teaching people how to organize their closets. Something basic, but very relevant. For many, organization, especially that closet full of clothes, can be torture. But do not need be like that. And Kondo showed us that when we analyze each piece of clothing and add some feeling to this analysis, it becomes much easier to decide what to keep and what to donate. This “new relationship with objects” is our first tip for a more organized closet: does this item of clothing bring you joy? If so, fold it well and store it away. Otherwise, donate and make space.
But this trick alone is not enough, of course. We list other essentials in this matter.

Curb your consumerist desire

Buying on impulse is bad for your pocket, your closet, the planet and, let's face it, it doesn't even fit in with the times we're living in anymore. Therefore, think carefully before purchasing new clothing and footwear. This also influences the organization of your closet.
What you decide to buy may take up the space of a piece to be donated: did you buy new boots? Donate one from last winter.

Organize by category

Decide which categories you want to have in your closet and organize it accordingly. This will depend on your style of clothing, for example: on this shelf, gym t-shirts, on the other, work t-shirts… on the hangers, place shirts, jackets and pants for better organization (Kondo calls this vertical organization “a library of clothes").
Separating by categories will save you time when finding what to wear.

Get rid of excesses

Throw away what is no longer useful and donate what is still good, but is no longer used by you. One of the secrets of an organized closet is not having big piles of t-shirts or drawers full of socks.
Give preference to the ones you really use and like. Less is always more.

Don't let it accumulate

If you only stop once in the summer and once in the winter to check your closet, the chances are high that you will have to spend several hours doing it (and get irritated). Don't allow the situation to get out of control.
Try to keep it organized daily (keeping the categories) and once a month, line up what you need.

Extra tip for women

To store bags, the best way is one inside the other.

Extra tip for everyone

If there's a piece that wasn't used last year, it's because it's unlikely to be used this year. Let go!
