Family home: How to meet needs — and maintain harmony — when different generations live in the same environment

We all know: the emotional bond that exists in the family does not prevent conflicts from arising. It is natural that different generations make up family groups, resulting in the exchange of different experiences, including between people with different levels of maturity. Knowing how to listen and respect the experiences of others can be even more challenging when this diversity lives and coexists daily under the same roof.

The best path to harmonious coexistence in a multigenerational home, that is, a home inhabited by people with different age groups and different priorities, has a lot to do with planning, organization and layout. For the routine to flow harmoniously, integrated spaces and environments that preserve individuality must be part of it.

In order for these aspects to be well woven together and make living in multigenerational homes pleasant and rich, the environments must be thought of and planned taking into account some points:

– The intimate area must be acoustically isolated, preserving the sleep schedule of those who sleep early, without depriving the activities of those who have a nighttime routine.

– The social area must be as spacious as possible and equipped so that different generations can live comfortably in their own way and share moments of leisure and fun.

– Some environments must be multifunctional, to provide practicality in meeting the varied demands of the family.

Good planning of spaces and furniture, which results in functional, useful and pleasant areas for all generations that live in the house and, mainly, the structuring of environments that favor meetings and interactions, are as important as those that respect privacy and moments of recollection for each resident.
