What will houses look like in the coming years?

One of the legacies that the Covid-19 pandemic left was the change in our relationship with our home. Spending more time at home has changed our home priorities and this has already become a trend.

The Casa do Futuro survey, carried out in July 2021 with the participation of 2,398 people from all over Brazil, by Hibou, a market and consumption research and monitoring company, showed some aspects that may be present in homes in the coming years.

According to the survey, in the next 10 years, 81.3% of respondents want a house with more space for children and animals to play; 82.1%, with more convenience for welcoming friends; 84.9% more living space with the family; 65.5%, want an office or space for a home office; 88.5% with more organization inside the cabinets and 88.2%, which is easier to clean.

Home automation was another aspect that drew attention in the study. 73.9% of those interviewed want a house with an electrical network capable of handling greater demand and 45.2% with more automation, with lights, curtains or appliances connected via Wi-Fi.

Sustainability was also present in the participants' responses. 86.1% wants the house to be more ventilated; 75.2% with more natural light and 78.6%, with rainwater reuse.

The house for the next few years should be:

Dynamic, with flexible and functional furniture;

Sustainable, with more contact with nature (including in decoration) and use of natural light;

Simpler, more comfortable and practical decoration;

Automated.
